It can be a difficult task selecting the right moving company and if you do not know what to look for then you could face problems. It is important to know the question you need to ask your moving agent before finalizing your move. It is not always the right decision to select a moving company which offers the lowest rates & it would be more prudent to make the decision based on other factors. You should make sure the moving company has appropriate license to operate trucks & insurance to cover your property. The moving company should also provide additional services that you might require. Few such services can be like piano handling, packing supplies, packing labor & storage. While comparing estimates received from moving companies, you need to do it correctly, compare price for each individual service. One moving company’s flat rate might not cover all the services you require. If moving out of state, compare the volume by Cu. Ft and weight. If a company provides other services as asked by you, make sure that those are included in the estimates provided & inquire about coupons and discounts before signing any kind of contract. For local moves, make comparison of no. of movers, trucks, hours and the rate per hour. Being aware of these will help you find any hidden fees before they are charged. Before selecting a moving company it is always advisable to go through their profile with the Better Business Bureau and look if there are any complaints against them. For interstate moves, you can find more information and review profiles at the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) website. DOT provides references for some moving companies & it’s a good idea to look at company’s references before signing any kind of contract. |
